I have been spending a lot of time thinking of how Redemption’s Hill Church can move to the next place God wants us to be. We are currently meeting for our Missional Communities (MC’s) on Sunday nights, and that is going fine we are digging into the word in a very deliberate and focused manor. God I think is using it to grow our core, but more has to be done. We can’t just wait for money to fall in our lap and think it will all come together at that point when we get a building.
So…. I met with a pastor friend of mine locally and he challenged me to think a little outside of my normal routine. To plan more steps now instead of “actively waiting” for God to open a door. It’s easy to get an “if-then” attitude about church… If we get a building, then it will fall together. But that may not be being a good steward now with what God has given us, and I don’t want to be guilty of that.
One way I hope to do more with my crew is by making sure our expectations are on the same level as well as trying to implement their gifts and abilities now before the next step happens. To do that I have given them all what I’m calling an “R.H. INTENTIONALITY FORM” here are a couple questions on it:
1. What do you expect out of R.H. (or your church)? What do you want us to accomplish?
2. What are your giftings? (what things excite you that could help the church: administration, graphics, serving, teaching/investing in children, greeting, coordinating outreach events… you get the idea).
3. What can you do NOW to help us get there? (coordinators can start thinking of and actively planning events for the church to be in the community, instead of recommending the church do more to the pastor… we hate that).
Try these questions out yourself in a prayerful and intentional manner, my hope is that they might unlock you to do more where you are at right now instead of waiting on the pastor to make the vision happen. You are the church the pastor is the coach, but you have to help execute the game plan or it’s never going to happen. I hope this empowers you as much as I’m praying it will Redemption’s Hill.
